The environment is struggling right now. I have not seen the sun rays and blue skies in 5 days. The sky has been tinted orange; the sun and moon were red; the air is filled with toxic particles that effects not only our health but the environment’s as well. The wildfires along the West Coast have caused the smoke to get socked in. From the fires in Oregon to the fires in California our earth is burning away.Â
How Smoke From Fires Can Affect Your Health
The smell of smoke may remind you of campfire memories and roasting marshmallows, but it is not good for you. If possible, avoid breathing in smoke. The mixture of gases and fine particles produced from the fires seep deep into your lungs. They can cause many health problems: heart and lung disease, burning eyes, and a runny nose. Smoke can really aggravate your respiratory conditions.
In California, 3.2+ million acres of land have already been burned and ripped through in 2020. And the stats keep changing due to the 28 current wildfires going on now.
To the left is a photograph taken in August of 2019 displaying the blue, smoke-free sky. On the right is the same picture taken in September of 2020, with the haze and smoke-filled sky. (Both photos are not edited).
It is important to keep yourself and the environment healthy in any ways possible. So, wearing a mask can protect you from the smoke and Coronavirus!Â
What powerful photos! One picture does say a thousand words.
