Are you in need of a new refreshing recipe? This healthy smoothie bowl is a great option for this hot upcoming summer. It is packed with natural flavors and basic fruits: strawberries, blueberries, pineapples, and banana. (I purchase all my frozen fruit at Trader Joe’s). This wellness trend is a perfect way to incorporate more healthy foods into your diet, meals, and snacks. Smoothies are packed with ingredients that improve your overall health.

This smoothie has the option of including hemp seeds. Health benefits of hemp seeds:

  • Reduce risk of heart disease
  • Help skin disorders
  • Aid in digestion
  • Source of plant-based protein, fiber, minerals, vitamins, and unsaturated fats

Summertime Smoothie Bowl

A simple blend of fruits with a secret boost of protein that will fill you up quickly. You can make this into a simple smoothie or bowl with toppings. Try it and get your blend on!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of apple juice
  • 2 hand-fulls of frozen strawberries
  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 cup of frozen blueberries
  • 2 hand-fulls of frozen pineapple chunks
  • Splash of water
  • 2 teaspoons of hemp seeds (optional boost of protein)

Toppings:

  • Fresh strawberries (sliced)
  • Fresh blueberries
  • Granola- I use Nature’s Path Organic Hemp Hearts Granola, which has an extra source of Ala Omega-3 (proven to be a beneficial fatty acid). Can be found at the market, Sprouts, Whole Foods, Target. Many different flavors so choose the one you like!

Instructions:

  1. First add the apple juice into a blender. Then, add all the fruits and hemp seeds. Finally, splash of water over the top of all the fruit. (Adding the liquid apple juice first helps the blender break up and mix the smoothie easier.)
  2. Blend until the the mixture is smooth (the texture should be thicker than a juice). Poor into a bowl and finish with toppings (or cup if you chose to drink).
  3. Can store extra in freezer for later or tomorrow’s snack.
